K9 Nose Work® Classes

I currently teach nose work classes at multiple locations in the Newberg, Sherwood, Hillsboro and Beaverton areas.

  • Each class series includes 6 sessions and you are strongly encouraged to attend all sessions.
  • You may repeat the class series multiple times.
  • Each class is a mixture of lecture, discussion and searching.
  • Dogs will remain crated in your vehicle during class, except when it's your dog's turn to search.
  • In all classes, we strive to provide a safe space for dogs. Please keep dogs at least 8 feet apart at all times.
  • Video recordings may be taken during class for training purposes. By registering for a class, you agree to limited use of class videos for educational purposes.

Intro to K9 Nose Work®

This class introduces the concept of the game, builds handler observation skills and timing, and develops the dog's hunt drive, motivation, confidence and focus.

  • This class is for dogs new to nose work or for those who may want to re-introduce a dog to K9 Nose Work®.
  • Dogs in this class work on primary only (food or toy search/reward). Odor is not introduced at this level.
  • The class builds strong foundation skills and is a prerequisite for introduction to odor, the next level of classes.

Intro to Odor

This class introduces the odors used in K9 Nose Work®. We will continue to build on the basic foundation skills learned in Intro to Nose Work, adding more challenges for the dogs.

  • This class is for dogs that have already completed the required series of Intro to K9 Nose Work® classes, or for those who may want to re-introduce an experienced dog to nose work.
  • Dogs will be introduced to birch, anise and clove odors in this class.

Continuing Nose Work

This class is an on-going class once all of the introductory classes have been completed and requires instructor approval. The class advances the handler's techniques and should cover all of the elements used in trials (containers, interiors, exteriors and vehicles), though competition is not the goal or requirement. Birch, Anise and Clove odors will be used in this class.

Class Fees

  • Classes are $180 for a 6-week session ($150 for 2nd dogs, same handler), due on the first day of class. Payment info will be sent once you are registered for a class.
  • Drop-in sessions for non-students are $35 per dog (Continuing Nose Work classes only when there is availability - dogs must be on all 3 odors)
  • If you have multiple dogs you want to bring to class, please complete a separate form for each dog.
  • Once you have submitted the general interest form, I will contact you regarding available classes and payment instructions
  • You will be required to sign a liability waiver before you arrive for the first day of class.
